File Sharing LAN Network

This page contains the old software settings for reference

How File Sharing LAN Network explained:

One machine is the master device which is where the shared folder is located. This folder can then be shared with other computers to allow multiple users to save to the same folder.

Setup the "Master Machine"

1: Select a "Master Machine", it should be the fastest Mac with plenty of storage space 2: Create a folder to use as the shared folder for the network, we will call this "Share Folder", but you can call this anything you like, for example, the name of the shoot 3: Open "System Preferences" 4: Go to "Sharing" 5: Select "File Sharing", and ensure the service is "on" (box next to file sharing should be ticked) 6: Now click the "Options" button, click the box in the "On" selection of the menu next to the user account, enter the password for the computer and click "Ok". The box next to "Share files and folders using SMB" should also be ticked, check before clicking "Done" 7: Click the "+" button below the "Shared Folders" window, select the "Share Folder" and press "Add" 8: The "Share Folder" should now be in the list of "Shared Folders" 9: Click on the "Shared Folder" in the list and set the permissions in the "Users:" window to "Read & Write", do the same for the "Public Folder" as well (the default share folder) 10: Click the "+" button below the "Users" window, select contacts and pick the name of the computer, click "Select" and enter a password (write down the name of the user and password for later), then click "Create Account", it will prompt you to enter the computer password, click "Modify Configuration", close window

How to connect to the "Master Machine"

1: Select "Finder" application 2: Go to "Network", you should be able to see the name of the master computer if the devices are on the same network 3: Double-click the master device icon, then click "Connect As", a window will open, select "Connect" 4: Enter the name of the master computer and the password you set above, then click "Connect"

Or: Finder, Go, "Connect to Server", and enter IP address of the Master Device, i.e. smb://192.168.1.233, and click "Continue", Registered User, enter the master computer and the password you set above, then click "Connect"
